The Landstown Middle School National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is a charter member of the National Junior Honor Society. The purpose of this organization is to recognize and promote scholarship, character, citizenship, leadership, and service. Applications for membership into this elite society are given to rising 8th graders who meet the following criteria:
o Have a 3.5 GPA for their 7th grade year and maintain the 3.5 throughout their 8th grade year
o Demonstrate exemplary behavior at all times
o Complete an application well, including a reference from an adult such as a coach, teacher, employer, or pastor
Members are selected by committee at the end of their 7th grade year and are inducted into the society in May for the following year.
During the year, members are expected to maintain or exceed a 3.5 GPA, show leadership, have a clean discipline record, and participate in meetings held by the society. Members' qualifications are reviewed after each grading period. If a student does not meet the 3.5 GPA, they are placed on academic probation for one grading period and dismissed from the society if reparations to the grades are not made. Should a member receive a disciplinary referral that results in an ISS, sponsors and administration will review the infraction and determine if dismissal is warranted. Members of the society who receive any discipline resulting in OSS are removed from the society.
